Copenhagen's largest shopping area is centered around Strøget in the heart of the city.
Stroeget is the world's longest pedestrian street with a wealth of shops, from budget-friendly chains like H&M and Zara to some of the world's most exclusive brands like Gucci and Mulberry.
The stretch is 1.1 kilometers long and runs from City Hall Square (Rådhuspladsen) to Kongens Nytorv. Stroeget is a nickname from the 1800s and covers the streets Frederiksberggade, Nygade, Vimmelskaftet and Østergade and Nytorv square, Gammeltorv Square and Amagertorv Square.
The stretch was originally called Routen, and it was not before 1962 and in the years after it was converted to a pedestrian street.
